Prepping for Makeup application

As makeup artists we have access to a variety of top skincare brands and makeup brands but what is most important is our canvas. There is only so much we can do during your appointment to prep your skin. Quite often if skin is too dry, makeup will grab and not sit as nicely in those areas. It is really important that you are doing the work prior to your appointment to take care of your skin.

Here are a few key things that you can do to make sure your makeup is flawless for your next event.

-Gently exfoliate your skin the night before your event (put away that St Ives scrub!). Aspect's fruit enzyme mask is the perfect exfoliating mask to prep your skin without damaging it. Apply the mask after cleansing and leave on for 20 minutes and then rinse, follow up with your serums and moisturiser. The fruit enzymes gently eat away at the dead skin cells on your face, without the need for harsh scrubbing agents, which can result in damaging your skin. Aspect's fruit enzyme mask will leave a glowy, smooth complexion, removing any skin build up. You can purchase the mask from here.

-Use a hydrating mask the night before your event. The more moisturised your skin is- the better!

The masks that I swear by are the PCA Skin Hyaluranic Over night mask or Aspect's Probiotic Mask. Sleep in this overnight and let the mask work it's magic! Re-apply your moisturiser in the morning, or prior to your appointment.

-If you suffer from dry lips the perfect hydrating and plumping lip treatment is PCA Skin Hyaluronic Lip Booster. Apply morning and night for super soft, hydrated lips.

-Hydrate from within. Avoid boozy nights out in the lead up to your event, drink plenty of water and load up on your omega-3 vitamins.

-Make sure you are using a SPF everyday! NZ's harsh sun can cause damaging effects, redness and pigmentation. My favourite SPF is the PCA Skin Sheer Tint Broad spectrum. It's water resistant and gives your skin a glowy, and flawless appearance. Perfect for everyday wear, pop a bit of mineral powder over the top for more coverage and you're good to go!

Other things to note:

-Please come to your appointment makeup free. The more time we spend on removing old makeup the less time we have to work on applying your makeup for you.

-Freshly clean and shaped brows always make your makeup look more polished. If you are getting them waxed, aim to do this 2-3 days prior to your appointment.

-If you get your lashes lifted please note that this makes false lashes extremely hard to apply. Due to the curl in the lash they can push the false lashes off. Natural lashes are preferred unless you are happy with just having mascara on them.

I hope these tips help and we look forward to seeing you at your next appointment!
